Horse Racing Tips

The best way to make a profit on the punt is to use a reliable set of horse racing tips as a starting point. While you may make a profit from backing every tip we post, you can achieve much higher returns if you do a little bit of extra work before backing the tip. The reason for the extra work is because there are some concealed factors that only become apparent a few hours before the race. Identifying these factors and understanding their impact will help you to achieve a better strike rate and an increased profit.

The factors we are talking about can be categorised as follows;

Price – Backing a runner that is paying more than $10 will not give you consistent returns and will likely diminish your profits on the punt. We stick to runners $10 or under.

Fluctuations – Significant money for a particular runner will lead to a reduction in price. Such price movements show a postive support for that runner. We like that but it can be a two edged sword. If the price continues to plunge, you end up with odds that are under value. And we know that backing horses under value is a long term losing proposition. So, the key is to identify support for a runner but be careful if you are placing a bet at the bottom of the plunge price. It is a judgement call.

Professional approach – Betting every race card in the meeting is a sure fire way to end up losing overall. The professional approach requires some discipline where you stick to the tips provided. And then you only back them when there is market support and they race will be run to suit. That is, we like front runners or just off the pace for sprint races. A good speed map is required to understand where the runner will settle after the jump. Runners with wide barriers should be avoided unless they can clearly lead or you are confident they wont be posted wide. It has a significant impact on its chances in the race. For middle distance and longer races, the horse needs to settle in a good position. Wide postings or settling to the rear require some additional luck and skill from the jockey to get into a winning position.

Strategy – Develop a strategy using the tips and stick to it for a period of time. Then review and refine and start again until you have a strategy that maximises your returns. You should be recording your bets on a spreadsheet and watch the replay of the race to understand where things might have gone wrong. Make comments for later reference when you are reviewing your strategy.

Staking – Percentage bank is the simplest and most effective staking strategy when you are starting out. I use 2.5% of my bank on every bet I make.
